Amazon.com Managing Editor in Meguro, Japan

The Amazon devices is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, detail-oriented Managing Editor to help enrich the Amazon device experience for customers using products such as Fire Tablets and Fire TV.

You will manage a team of editors who will be developing delightful, engaging and witty content that supports the Amazon device experience. You will have an eye for knowing what customers will enjoy, with a deep knowledge of Japanese culture, news, current events, sports and entertainment—including pop culture, music and TV, technology, fashion, lifestyle, books, etc. The ideal candidate will create and manage a content workflow, editorial process, and schedule, while working cross functionally with our product managers, marketing managers, user interface designers and engineering teams. Along with managerial oversight, the individual will create, edit, and provide QA for the content developed by their team. He/She will also serve as the liaison to product management and user interface designers and will support the successful launches of new customer features that utilize the content created by their team.

Besides having first-class written and verbal communication skills, the Managing Editor will be detail oriented, extremely organized and able to juggle multiple projects and prioritize in order to meet aggressive deadlines. The ideal candidate will have a healthy appetite for new technologies; will be innovative, internally motivated, self-directed, and willing to help execute top-notch content to achieve business objectives.

This role is based in Tokyo and requires native-speaking level proficiency in Japanese and business level proficiency in English.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communication, or related field

  • 5+ years experience in copy writing and editing

  • Proficient using CMS tools and other content creation tools

  • Native (speaking and writing)-level proficiency in Japanese and fluency in English

  • Experience in managing people

  • 7+ years experience in editing customer facing content

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills--experience in communicating to senior management

  • History of successful project leadership requiring coordination of cross-team resources

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment

  • Experience working with internal and external partners to build great customer experiences

  • Personal initiative, flexibility, intellectual curiosity
