We are looking for a Private Label Food Safety Manager to join our team.

We are looking for a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Worldwide Food Safety and Compliance department as a Food Safety Manager. The position will be located in Tokyo. High-Level Summary of Deliverables

· Participate in food manufacturing partner selection

  • Coordinate food safety and quality audit at manufacturing facilities including communication of audit process and scheduling

  • Audit facilities against the Amazon Standard

  • Create audit reports and close out corrective action plans within agreed to timeframe

  • Refine audit process as needed

  • Work directly with manufacturing partners’ technical team to develop products, product processes and associated technical documentation

  • Review importing countries regulatory requirements and incorporate those requirements into the development of product, product packaging and labeling

  • Organize independent consultant and laboratory reviews and tests to validate prototype compliance

  • Design and organize during production and pre-shipment inspection and testing ensuring product's compliance and consistency

  • Continuously identify and communicate improvement opportunities

  • Leverage technology to manage compliance processes

  • Create and monitor business metrics to track compliance and process effectiveness

  • Manage benchmarking studies against equivalent products

  • Attend prototype and first production runs to ensure product and process match what is defined in the technical product specification

  • Keep abreast of emerging issues in food safety and quality as it relates to manufacturing facilities

  • Support the wider food safety team by contributing to shared process and standard development

· Manage food product related incidents and escalated complaints

  • Degree in food science or related field

  • 5+ years of experience in food manufacturing or retail environment or auditing

  • Demonstrated project and program management experience

  • Demonstrated experience creating sustainable processes

· Knowledge of food safety laws and regulations and communicating requirements to non-food safety associates

· Experience interacting with local regulators (e.g. department of health, environmental health service)

  • Exceptional risk assessment skills (safety, legality, quality)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in both English and Japanese

  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and autonomously

  • Experience leveraging technology to drive process improvements

  • Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team, including adherence to core values and dynamic corporate culture

  • Ability to coach non-food safety associates and contribute to the development of a food safety culture at Amazon

  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting

  • Ability to travel extensively domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications

· Understanding of various food product categories and processing steps

· In-depth knowledge of GFSI standards and how they relate to each other

  • GFSI auditing experience with an in-depth knowledge of HACCP principles

  • Experience importing foods and working with international suppliers

  • Laboratory testing experience
