As Corporate Counsel, you will be a key member of Amazon’s global legal team providing support to Audible’s cutting-edge digital spoken audio production and retail business. You will work closely with Audible’s Asia Pacific businesses on a variety of transactions as well as provide day-to-day legal advice.
This is a broad based in-house legal role, with responsibility across a range of legal issues and demands, for all aspects of the business, but with a particular focus on supporting the content licensing business and advising on the work required to launch new services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Principal duties include structuring, drafting and advising business teams to help them negotiate licensing, distribution, technology and other commercial agreements, and providing ongoing legal counseling in general legal areas such as commercial law, antitrust, copyright, consumer law and contracts law.
You will handle regulatory and consumer affairs issues, including privacy issues and marketing materials review and clearance.
You will assist with implementation, training and enforcement of Audible’s compliance policies in the Asia Pacific region, including Audible’s business conduct policies.
Audible innovates rapidly, and the ability to effectively drive legal review and participation in new product and service launches is key.
The role will be based in Sydney.
Qualified candidates must possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, and be capable of providing sound, practical, and well-informed advice to senior business leaders in response to complex and rapidly changing conditions. Qualified candidates must also demonstrate consistent sound judgment, even in ambiguous situations, and be able to help senior business leaders navigate sophisticated and novel rights, media, technology and commercial issues. The successful candidate must be enthusiastic, and enjoy working hard and being challenged.
Outstanding academic qualifications and fully qualified lawyer in Australia or the United States or other common law jurisdiction.
4+ years overall practice experience, including at least 2 years commercial or transactional experience in a law firm.
Extensive professional experience in the APAC region including experience in handling contracts in Asia with large multinational corporations, banks, financial institutions or governmental agencies.
Experience and/or demonstrated interest in digital and Internet media and publishing.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with savvy and demanding business partners.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Light travel may be required.
Experience in book publishing, distribution and sale or TV or feature film development, production and distribution.
Work experience with a leading consumer internet company.
