Based in Japan, this role will drive the development, implementation and execution of regional rewards policies for BlackRock in Japan. Reporting jointly to the Head of HR Japan and the Head of Rewards APAC, the ideal candidate will have a high degree of professional maturity and executive level presence. Most importantly we are looking for someone who will be creative, flexible, solutions oriented and have an international outlook with the ability to develop relationships amongst HR colleagues, key business partners and HR functional groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and lead the regional/local rewards initiatives/ practices in Japan in partnership with the Head of HR Japan and the Head of Rewards APAC
  • Provide advisory as the local regulatory expert to align the global HR processes and practices wherever possible; at the same time ensure the Japan rewards policies comply with the local regulations
  • Take the leadership role to partner with senior Japan stake holders to drive the rewards initiatives in line with corporate goals
  • Work with specialist HR teams across the globe to deliver a meaningful rewards scheme for Japan
  • Lead and execute the rewards-related events that occur regularly or ad-hoc basis such as:

  • On boarding – New Hire Orientation to ensure proper understanding of firm, benefits and rules

  • Off boarding – Provide Exit Information
  • Payroll – data creation, review, reconciliation, reporting, annual tax adjustment operations
  • Corporate Housing Program – Management, reflecting to salary
  • Company Pension Plan – Statutory reporting, Monthly contribution registration
  • Health service – medical checkup, flu vaccination, stress-check test, corporate doctor arrangement, reporting to regulators
  • Vendor Management – Group Insurance, EAP, Wellness Seminar, etc.
  • Audit – Ensure proper filing for Payroll, Compliance, Tax, Pension audits
  • Assist in promoting awareness of HR rewards policies and processes across the business areas in Japan (Compensation Philosophy, Rules of Employment, Benefit Plans, HR-compliance related rules)
  • Participate in cross-divisional HR projects and the design and implementation of new HR policies and practices in APAC.


  • 5-7 years’ experience in HR with a focus on Rewards, Comp and Benefits with exposure to have worked in an international workplace
  • Solid understanding of Japanese labor practices inclusive of Japanese Employment Law and other related regulations
  • Very good grasp of statutory benefits and payroll, as well as supplemental benefits
  • Certification of Health and Safety at Work qualification, to handle confidential medical records
  • An ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Capable of grasping new concepts quickly and utilizing it in a productive manner
  • A high level of attention to detail
  • Relevant experience of employee database management
  • Broad knowledge of HR concepts, processes and their interdependencies
  • Finance industry experience is preferable
  • Microsoft Office (essential)
  • Japanese (native level) and English (business level) communication skills required
