The OCI Cloud Tools – Automation team is responsible for the delivery of tools / systems for the Oracle Cloud for Industry organization. We focus on improving the efficiency of hosting operations and the delivery of cloud-based business services.
We are looking for a smart, self-motivated, hard-working application engineer to join our Cloud - Automation team. The candidate will be detail oriented and focused on delivering the new log aggregation service built on ElasticSearch, Logstash and Kibana as a key service to our operations teams. In addition, you will lead the automation of workflow projects and manage our Chef Implementation. This position is critical to improve our ability to deliver high quality cloud services to our customers.
Design, architect and deploy an enterprise class log aggregation implementation using ElasticSearch, Logstash and Kibana (ELK) across 12 Oracle data centers
Work with cross-functional teams to create Chef Cookbooks while supporting the Chef-Server platform
Work with product management to define service descriptions and artifacts required during the on boarding process for new cloud services
Design best practices around the monitoring of OS, database and other common Oracle tech stack components
On-going support for our log aggregation service, workflow automations, and configuration services
Developing key business reports and metrics based on monitoring data
Working with members of the Cloud Application Management teams to gather requirements and design solutions to meet the monitoring needs of new products and services
Candidate will be required to fulfill a project leadership role
7 years or more of related technical experience
2 years or more working in an enterprise cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or Oracle)
Comfortable working in an agile nature in a DevOps environment
Excellent application management skills combined with pragmatic thinking and a can-do attitude
Experience supporting applications in a mission-critical 24x7 business environment a must
Experience with NoSQL platforms and key-value stores (ElasticSearch, Riak, Redis, MongoDB) a must
Hand-on experience with messaging platforms (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or alike)
Strong Oracle Enterprise Linux or RedHat experience
Automation experience with Rundeck, Terraform or MCollective
Configuration Management experience Chef (preferred), Puppet, Ansible, or Salt Stack
Knowledge of Oracle Enterprise Manager or Nagios a huge plus
Scripting experience with Python, Perl, Ruby or bash
Experience supporting, building and/or deploying Java applications
Experience with Git or Subversion
Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop or HBase a huge plus
Excellent communication skills
Ability to operate under pressure with an extreme attention to detail is required
Experience working in teams of 5-10, ideally in a cross-functional team setting
BS or higher in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
Detailed Description and Job Requirements
Analyze, design develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for commercial or end user applications. Writes code, completes programming and performs testing and debugging of applications.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will perform high-level design based on provided external specifications. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering as necessary to discuss minor changes to product functionality and to ensure quality and consistency across specific products.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
